Distance

A mini essay on distance

I like to get lost. I like wandering down the alleyways and through the markets. I like driving on a long stretch of highway, or alongside a coast.

But it’s not just these things I like, it’s that in these seconds I’m in the present. No fear of past or future, no care about it either.

It seemed like this was the only solution: travel far and lose your fear; the qualities you didn’t want to keep.

Past and future mitigated by a brief moment of freedom. Of course, the one person waiting for me at the end of this journey was always myself, same as I’d ever been.

While on the road, there's plenty to find about oneself, but very few things you can outrun. Traveling helps you become a better person, but not a different one.
